The
definition of NRI as given in the Constitution of NRI
Sabha is as under:-
“Definition
of NRI:- An Indian citizen who stays abroad
for employment/carrying on business or vacation outside
India or stays abroad under circumstances
indicating an intention for an uncertain duration
of stay abroad is a non-resident.
It will also include non-resident foreign
citizens of Indian Origin and Indian Citizens having
green card or otherwise the right of residence in a
foreign country.
The
definition includes for the purpose of membership an ex-NRI
residing in Punjab for more than nine months in a
year”.
The NRIs of Punjab covered under the definition of NRIs
shall be required to fulfill the following conditions to
become members of NRI Sabha Punjab:-
1.
Prescribed Membership Form duly completed and
signed.
2.
Two Passport Size Photographs.
3.
One Photocopy of Passport duly attested by the
concerned NRI.
4.
Cheque/DD payable at Jalandhar for Rs. 5000/- in
favour of NRI Sabha Punjab or Rs. 5000/- in cash as life
membership fee. In case of both husband & wife
becoming members, the membership fee shall be Rs.
6000/-.
5.
In case the NRI Member wants to make his nominee
as per Rule 5(iii) of Constitution, he shall fill
nominee’s particulars in the relevant column of
Membership Form and give two passport size photographs
of the nominee.
6.
The NRI Members and Nominees shall be issued
Photo Identity Cards under the signatures of the
President or any other officer authorised by the
President.
7.
The Membership fee once deposited shall not be
refunded in any circumstances. For any change in the
particulars/address etc by the NRI member in his
membership record/Identity Card, a written request with
proof, if any, shall be necessary to be made. He shall
also surrender his Old membership Identity Card to the
NRI Sabha’s Office. For any change/deletion of
nominee, the NRI member shall submit a written request
and shall also surrender Identity Card of the Nominee to
the NRI Sabha’s Office.

Director/Delegate
Members
A member can acquire
Directorship by giving Rs. 5 Lacs or enrolling 200 or
more members. Similarly a member can acquire the status
of Delegate member by giving Rs. 1 Lac to the NRI Sabha
or enrolling 40 or more members.
Cancellation of
Membership
In
case any information/particulars submitted by the NRI for becoming member
of the Sabha are found to be
incorrect/false/incomplete, his membership may be
cancelled after giving him a chance to explain his
position within stipulated time. The President NRI Sabha
shall be competent to pass orders in such cases and
appeal against such orders may be filed before the
Chairman of NRI Sabha whose decision shall be final.
