Singh Hayre took a meeting with Distt.

& held discussion on important points.

holding meeting of District Presidents. Sh.

Nawanshahr are seen in the photograph.
He disclosed that on the
demand of NRIs, the NRI Sabha Punjab is going to
organize NRI convention on 12.12.2008 at
Jalandhar. Sh Parkash Singh Badal Chief Minister
Punjab-cum-Chief Patron NRI Sabha Punjab has
consented to inaugurate the Convention which is
likely to be attended by more than 2000 NRIs
including MLAs/ MPs of Indian Origin in foreign
countries. Such a Convention by the Sabha is
being held after a gap of about 5 years and the
NRIs & their representatives shall have due
opportunity to express their views for finding
out ways & means to solve the problems of
NRIs and to project the important demands before
the government and foreign dignitaries. It will
also be used for highlighting the activities of
NRI Sabha and the steps already taken by the
Sabha and the Punjab Government in favour of
NRIs. It was also indicated in the meeting to
make an appeal to the NRIs to donate liberally
for the construction of NRI Bhawan at Jalandhar,
the design of which has since been approved by
the committee headed by Commissioner Jalandhar
Division Sh. S.R.Ladhar, IAS and the
construction work is to begin very shortly after
completion of other formalities. It was further
observed that the NRIs were facing great
problems in proving their identity for getting
the facilities like electric connections,
driving licenses and other such benefits in the
absence of ration cards which are not issued by
the Food & Supplies Department of Punjab
Government. The President informed that the
matter has already been taken up with the Punjab
Government for making provision to issue special
ration cards to the NRIs or the Identity Cards
issued by NRI Sabha Punjab to its NRI Members
should be recognized as a proof of their
identity. It was decided to pursue the
matter. It was also observed that the NRIs are
compelled to go to the courts for getting
possession of their rural/urban properties owned
by them from the persons in possession who are
neither their own tenants, nor authorised
persons, nor owners. In such cases where NRI is
having undisputed ownership, the person who has
illegally/forcibly occupied the property should
be dealt with by registering police case
straight way under the relevant provisions of
law and there should be no delay in this regard.
The offices of Distt. Units of NRI Sabha should
be located in the Deputy Commissioner’s Office
Complex for convenience of NRIs because majority
of their problems relate to revenue and police
matters. The President assured them to
immediately make a request to Commissioner
Jalandhar Division to call a meeting of the
respective Deputy Commissioners to provide
office accommodation accordingly. It was also
observed that all the important demands of NRIs
should be projected in the NRI Convention being
held on 12.12.2008.
