Sangat Darshan exclusively for hearing the
problems of NRIs on 12.08.2008

The Deputy
Commissioner Jalandhar Sh. A.S.Pannu, IAS and
Senior Superintendent of Police Jalandhar Sh.
Pawan Rai, IPS held a Sangat Darshan exclusively
for hearing the problems of NRIs on 12.8.2008.

Executive Director NRI Sabha Punjab were also
present for representing the NRIs. About 17
complaints of NRIs were solved. In one case of
cheating of NRI for Rs. 26 Lacs by a local
person, the Senior Superintendent of Police
ordered strict action by the police. The case of
one NRI from England, whose house was partly illegally occupied by a
government department at Jalandhar was also
taken up to insist upon the concerned
authorities to vacate the house about which the
NRI has already got court order. Such meetings
by Deputy Commissioners/Senior Superintendents
of Police for the NRI cases are being
appreciated by the NRIs for the speedy disposal
of their cases. In other districts also the NRI
Sabha is pressing for regular such meetings
according to the Punjab Government instructions
already issued in June 2007 to all the Deputy
Commissioners & Senior Superitendents of
Police.
NRI Police
Stations opened in 6 districts Jalandhar,
Kapurthala, Nawanshahr, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana
& Moga have started functioning. The NRI
Sabha Punjab keeps close liaison with these
Police Stations.
A meeting was
also taken by Sh. Kamaljit Singh Hayre President
NRI Sabha Punjab with the SHOs of NRI Police
Stations in the month of April 2008 in which
these Police Stations were opened. The
difficulties being faced were also discussed and
with the efforts made by the NRI Sabha by
approaching the higher authorities especially in
the police department, these police stations
have been/are being provided with necessary
infrastructure like vehicles, computers, staff.
With the available facilities, the NRI Police
Stations have started giving positive results.
As informed by the NRI Police Stations of
Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Jalandhar and Kapurthala
368 complaints were received from NRIs out of
which 268 stand disposed of in the months of
April to July 2008. Every efforts is made to
give the desired result of speedy and proper
disposal of NRI complaints requiring police
action.
On the initiative of NRI Sabha Punjab, the Punjab Government in the
Department of NRI Affairs took up the matter
with the Department of Revenue for issuing
necessary instructions to all the Deputy
Commissioners in the State to organize Joint
Workshop/ Meetings of Police Officers and
Revenue Officers including SHOs, SP/DSP, Naib
Tehsildars/ Tehsildars, Additional DCs, DROs-cum-Presiding
Officers of Fast Track Revenue Courts. The
Financial Commissioners in the State of Punjab
vide Memo No. 25/60/2008-LR-2/5606 dated 17.7.08
for organizing these workshops/ meetings so as
to discuss the ways and means to have close
coordination between the Revenue Department and
Police Department for speedy disposal of NRI
problems which generally related to
land/property matters. These meetings would be
very helpful in the direction of NRI welfare.

MONTHLY NEWSLETTER FOR THE NRIs
An idea to highlight the
problems being faced by the NRIs and the
activities of NRI Sabha struck to the mind of Sh.
Kamalji Singh Hayre soon after he assumed the
charge of NRI Sabha Punjab by bringing out a
monthly newsletter for the NRIs and circulate to
the NRIs & their representatives in abroad
& India. This will also keep the NRIs in
touch with the efforts made by NRI Sabha for the
welfare of NRIs and for their native land. It
will also give them chance to make valuable
suggestions to the NRI Sabha from time to time.
The first issue of monthly NRI Newsletter was
released by Sh. Avinash Chander, Chief
Parliamentary Secretary to Government of Punjab
(Health & Family Welfare) on 14.08.2008 in
the premises of NRI Sabha Office at Jalandhar.

On the request made by Sh.
Kamaljit Singh Hayre President NRI Sabha Punjab,
The Hon’ble Chief Guest assured to help in
accepting the important demands of NRIs at the
government level for early opening of Fast Track
Judicial Courts for the NRIs, to provide grant
for the construction of NRI Bhawan & for
providing facilities to NRIs to make investment
in the State. The President thanked him and also
conveyed appreciation from the NRIs for the
opening of NRI Police Stations, Fast Track
Revenue Courts for NRIs and also hoped that the
government will continue to take more steps for
the protection of properties of NRIs and also
assured further cooperation from the NRI Sabha
to the government.
